If
you wish to use the .deb packages to install Oolite, you will need to
download 2 files. You will need the oolite-data.deb and,
depending
on the processor(s) in your computer, either the i386.deb or
the amd_64.deb,
accordingly. To install, double-click on the
downloaded amd or i386 deb file icon and follow the on-screen
directions. If you wish to install via the console, most likely
you don't need any directions from me anyway... |
To ensure that the installer
you have
downloaded is genuine and that
your download has not been corrupted, it is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED that
you check that the MD5 sum of the file you downloaded matches the
appropriate MD5. You
should download the
MD5 file for your operating system and compare them using the following
tools.
For
Windows
users,
I suggest
using the excellent little freeware
program HashOnClick.
To use it you simply copy the text in the MD5 file to the clipboard,
then right-click the installer file and choose "Calculate Hash Value
> MD5" from the context-menu. HashOnClick will then report if
the programs MD5 sum matches the one in the clipboard. There are
a number of other freeware MD5-sum calculating
programs available for Windows if you prefer to choose your own.
Linux
users should save the MD5
file
in the same directory as the downloaded installer, then open a
Terminal, cd to the directory where the files are located and type
"md5sum oolite-1.73.4[rest-of-filename] ; cat
oolite-1.73.4[rest-of-filename].md5 " (without the quotes)
to
check the integrity of the installer package. Alternatively,
should you prefer a GUI tool to check the MD5 sum, you could try
JSummer.
Macintosh
OS
X users should
save the MD5 file in the same directory as
the downloaded
installer, then open a Terminal, cd to the directory where the files
are located and type "md5 -c oolite-1.73.4-test-mac-full.zip.md5"
(without the quotes) to check the integrity of the installer zip-file.
